Prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements you currently take.
Known allergies and any previous reaction to iron, medicines, injections or infusions.
Tell us if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, are unwell or have a current or recent infection.
Bring the correct prescribed iron medication in its original, unopened pharmacy packaging.
The infusion time depends on the medicine prescribed, prescribed dose and clinical directions. Some infusions may take around 15 minutes, but your total appointment will be longer to allow for preparation, observations and monitoring.
Your blood pressure, pulse, temperature, breathing and IV site may be checked as clinically required.
A post-infusion observation period of at least 30 minutes is allowed so that you can be monitored before leaving.
Tell your nurse immediately if you experience discomfort, swelling or a change in skin colour around the IV site, or if you feel unwell during the infusion.
Seek urgent medical assistance for serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, mouth or throat, or chest pain. Call 000 in an emergency.
Follow-up blood tests may be recommended by your GP or prescriber after the infusion.
