What is PRP?

Plasma is the liquid component of our blood which ‘holds’ all the cellular components such as red and white blood cells, as well as platelets.

As the procedure uses the patient’s own blood, metaphorically it has been referred to as the “Vampire Facelift” or Dracula therapy. Eye
The under eye area is a difficult area to treat and improve.
We can treat the dynamic smile lines with anti-wrinkle neurotoxin injections, but the lines that remain at rest under the eyes don’t benefit from anti-wrinkle product.
Filler can be used in the cheeks, and in some cases can be used in the tear troughs; but this technique does not improve the lax and fragile skin under the eyes or solve the under-eye darkness, which bothers many patients.
This is an areas where PRP really excels as the whole under-eye area can be safely treated as well as the upper lid to improve fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and also thicken the creepy under eye skin.
What is involved
A small sample of blood is withdrawn and spun in a centrifuge to enable the separation of red blood cells from plasma. This is then injected into the skin allowing platelets to activate and release healing and growth factors to stimulate healthy stem cells and collagen production. PRP can be used in conjunction with skin needling for a synergistic deeper penetration.
What to expect post procedure
Immediately after the procedure, the injected skin may feel tighter than usual, with lines / wrinkles appearing minimised. This initial fullness from the plasma and subtle swelling in response to the platelet-initiated regeneration process will subside and skin will return to normal appearance within 4 days.
However the platelet-released growth factors will continue to work within the skin to produce new skin cells and blood supply over the next 6 weeks.Typically 3 weeks after treatment an overall improvement in skin hydration, texture and tone can be seen.
Between 3 and 6 weeks, the new skin cells produce new collagen and elastin making the overall structure of the skin healthier and stronger which improves the overall skin appearance. Reduction of fine lines and improvements to skin elasticity will continue for several months.
Please note that results will be dependent upon a number of factors – state of the skin before the therapy and patient adherence to the pre-procedure and post-procedure protocols.
How does Platelet Rich Plasma works
The facial rejuvenation benefits are gained by production of new cells and collagen underneath your skin, which takes some time for your body to make.
You can only expect to see noticeably visible results by week 6 although most patients report an improvement in the feeling of their skin elasticity by end of week 3.
